Thanks to Luke Fickell and Phil Longo, this year’s rendition of the Wisconsin football quarterback room projects far more stable than the past few seasons.

After three years of rollercoaster play from former Badgers starting QB Graham Mertz, UW went portaling and rebuilt their stable of arms from scratch. Led by SMU transfer Tanner Mordecai — who will be the unquestioned QB1 in 2023, the Badgers also brought in former four-star signal callers Braedyn Locke and Nick Evers through the portal — giving the program some talented options to develop for the future.

Wisconsin football quarterback room ranks top 35 nationally, No. 3 in the Big Ten.

Recently, Phil Steele ranked the top quarterback rooms in the Big Ten conference and all of college football, with Wisconsin football coming in much higher than in years past. Ahead of the 2023 season, the Badgers new-look QB room is listed as the nation’s No. 35 group of signal callers and No. 3 in the Big Ten behind Michigan and Maryland.

The headliner, as previously mentioned, is Tanner Mordecai, who brings over 7,000 yards passing with 72 touchdowns to 22 interceptions in the past two seasons with the Mustangs. He’s expected to help usher in Longo’s air raid system and spread out opposing defenses so Wisconsin football can push the ball down the field.

If something goes wrong, UW has two talented options behind him waiting in the wings in Locke and Evers, that will likely battle it out next season for the QB1 job. Locke appears to have the inside track at being the No. 2 option this season.

The Wisconsin football QB room is completely rebuilt heading into the 2023 season, and the national media is noticing.
