Madison, Wis. — Greg Gard and the Wisconsin men’s basketball program have contacted a mid-major guard from a nearby school that recently entered the transfer portal.

Earlier this week, National Recruiting Expert Joe Tipton from On3Sports, reported that Wisconsin was one of the teams that inquired about University of Illinois-Chicago transfer guard Jace Carter.

Along with UW, Texas A&M, Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Virginia Tech, South Carolina, Clemson, Minnesota, Butler, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Iowa State, and several other schools expressed interest in Carter.

The 6-foot-5, 210-pound guard was an All-Missouri Conference second-team member this past season, averaging 16.6 points, 7.0 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.8 steals on 45.6% shooting from the field.

Carter started all 30 games he appeared in for the Flames this past season and will have two years of eligibility remaining.

Why Jace Carter Makes Sense for Wisconsin Men’s Basketball

Wisconsin men’s basketball clearly needs a more traditional small forward in their rotation, bother offensively and defensively.

However, Carter will be in high demand because of his skill set. He’s a good spot-up shooter with impressive range, can put the ball on the deck and finish at the basket, plus he’s a tough shot-maker.

I wouldn’t bother reading too much into this one because his style of play will likely lead him to play in an up-tempo system, which the Badgers don’t have the personnel to run as I write this here today.
