Wisconsin Football Welcomes New Wide Receivers Coach to Staff

Following Mike Brown’s departure to Notre Dame, the Wisconsin Badgers football team’s wide receivers coaching vacancy has sparked speculation about potential replacements.

It seems that Luke Fickell and the Wisconsin Badgers have made their decision. FootballScoop initially reported that Kenny Guiton, Arkansas’ WRs coach, will assume the same position at UW. BadgerNotes.com verified this information with a source on Wednesday morning.

Guiton, who served as the WRs coach at Arkansas for the past three seasons, took on the role of interim offensive coordinator when Razorbacks head coach Sam Pittman dismissed OC Dan Enos after eight regular-season games. 

Wisconsin Football Hires Kenny Guiton as Its New WRs Coach

Well, ladies and gents, the Wisconsin football program found a good one in former Arkansas assistant Kenny Guiton to replace Mike Brown as the Badgers’ new wide receivers coach. 

Luke Fickell is well-acquainted with Guiton. Guiton played quarterback at Ohio State from 2009 to 2013, appearing in 22 games and passing for 893 yards and 16 touchdowns. While serving as Ohio State’s co-defensive coordinator, linebackers coach, and interim head coach, Fickell overlapped with Guiton during his first two seasons with the Buckeyes.

After concluding his stint with the Buckeyes, the 32-year-old Houston native ventured into the Arena Football League before pivoting into coaching. Guiton has spent time with Houston, Louisiana Tech, Colorado State, and Arkansas before joining the Wisconsin football team. 

Guiton’s coaching acumen became evident as he guided several receivers to all-conference recognition and even aided their journey to the NFL. Notably, he played a pivotal role in developing Arkansas standout Treylon Burks, who flourished with the Razorbacks. He later became a first-round NFL Draft pick of the Tennessee Titans. 

Wisconsin’s recently appointed wide receivers coach is known for his adept recruiting prowess and knack for building robust relationships—a valuable addition to the Badgers’ coaching cadre. 

Guiton is considered a rising star in the industry and was even named to the 247Sports 30 under 30 list, alongside Wisconsin football RB coach Devon Spalding and Director of Player Personnel Max Stienecker. 

What Kenny Guiton Inherits in the Wisconsin Badgers WR Room

Kenny Guiton is walking into a Wisconsin football wide receiver corps that is in flux due to the departures of Chimere Dike and Skyler Bell, two Badgers who contributed significantly over multiple seasons.

With this change, Bryson Green emerges as the most reliable outside threat. C.J. Williams, Vinny Anthony, and Quincy Burroughs are semi-established options that will vie for playing on the boundary in 2024.

Will Pauling excelled this past season as the team’s primary slot receiver within Phil Longo’s offensive scheme and led the Wisconsin Badgers with 66 catches for 694 yards and four touchdowns. He’ll remain a focal point.

The Badgers also have young playmakers such as slot receiver Trech Kekahuna and incoming freshman Kyan Berry-Johnson, whom the program holds in high regard. Additionally, adding Michigan State transfer Tyrell Henry is expected to bring some versatility and experience.

Other promising but less experienced players competing for opportunities in the Wisconsin football wide receiver room include Tommy McIntosh and Chris Brooks Jr.

The program will likely add another receiver from the portal who can play on the outside and has been linked to several players this offseason.
