Wisconsin Badgers football QB commit Mabrey Mettauer

Wisconsin football has its quarterback in the 2024 recruiting class signed, sealed, and delivered.

Mabrey Mettauer, a Trevor Lawrence doppelganger, is a highly touted signal caller from The Woodlands, Texas. He made things official on Wednesday by signing his letter of intent to join the Wisconsin Badgers as part of the early signing period on National Signing Day.

As a senior, Mettauer completed 67.2% of his passes for 2,305 yards for 29 touchdowns with only one interception. Per MaxPreps, he also ran for 392 yards on the ground and tacked on five more touchdowns.

Wisconsin Football Signee: Mabrey Mettauer

Recruiting Rankings

247Sports Composite: 4-star – Grade: 0.8916 – No. 445 player in the nation; No. 31 QB; No. 72 in Texas.

247Sports: 3-star – Grade: 87 – No. 48 QB; No. 138 in Texas.

On3: 3-star – Grade: 87 – No. 53 QB; No. 153 in Texas.

Rivals: 4-star – Grade: 5.8 – No. 184 in the nation; No. 10 QB; No. 30 in Texas

ESPN: 4-star – Grade: 80 – No. 10 QB; No. 56 in Texas

Mettauer is a dual-threat quarterback with experience running a spread offense. As a passer, he has a powerful arm that can throw into tight windows and extend plays with his legs if the pocket collapses. The Texas native also throws accurately, works through his reads, and can get the ball out quickly.

He’s not a track star by any means, but the four-star prospect is a big and physical runner that can pick up some extra yardage and move a pile. Mettauer is someone Wisconsin football can get creative with by mixing in QB powers, the occasional read option, RPOs, etc.

Commitment to the Wisconsin Football Program

Mabrey Mettauer committed to the Wisconsin football team on December 25, 2022, joining the 2025 recruiting class not long after Luke Fickell took the reigns and hired Phil Longo as OC, who was able to sell him on the Badgers’ new offensive vision.

Mettauer held 24 Division 1 offers but chose the Wisconsin Badgers over teams like North Carolina, Miami, LSU, Kansas, Florida, Cincinnati, Baylor, and Arizona State, among others.

The Badgers are losing starting quarterback Tanner Mordecai following the ReliaQuest Bowl but recently brought in Miami transfer Tyler Van Dyke, presumably to take the starting reigns in 2024. Mettauer will have a season to get himself acquainted with the Wisconsin football team’s offense before pushing other young signal callers like Braedyn Locke, Nick Evers, and Cole LaCrue for the starting role in 2025.
