After an uneven season, the Wisconsin Badgers football team has set their sights on bolstering their defensive line through the transfer portal.

On Sunday, the Badgers extended an offer to Albany’s Elijah Hills, a veteran defensive tackle in the transfer portal.

Since entering the transfer portal, Hills has attracted attention from several Division I schools, including Tulane, Western Kentucky, Coastal Carolina, James Madison, Houston, Western Virginia, and Ball State.

Standing tall at 6-foot-2 and weighing 281 pounds, Hills accounted for 31 tackles, including 15 pressures, 9.0 TFLs, and 1.5 sacks this past season. Over his career that spans 35 appearances, he’s totaled 67 tackles, 39 pressures, 17.5 TFLs, 4.5 sacks, and three forced fumbles.

The new Wisconsin football defensive line target has one year of eligibility remaining.

With departures like Rodas Johnson and Darian Varner to the transfer portal plus losses of Gio Paez and Isaiah Mullens, Wisconsin football will remain on the lookout for defensive line depth heading into 2024.

The unit as a whole underperformed and will need several players to step up alongside James Thompson Jr to improve the Wisconsin Badgers’ play in the front seven. Beyond Thompson, only Curt Neal and Ben Barten have played significant snaps for this staff, leaving very few options UW can feel good about to serve as more than depth pieces.

The search for a defensive lineman or two in the portal continues as the Wisconsin Badgers football team seeks to fortify their depth.
