The Wisconsin football program needs to upgrade its cornerback depth, and the Badgers have decided to get into the mix for an FCS Freshman All-American cornerback who recently entered the transfer portal.

On Monday, the Badgers officially offered a scholarship to Rhode Island cornerback Syeed Gibbs, who has three years of eligibility remaining.

Shortly after entering the transfer portal, the 6-foot, 180-pound CB received offers from West Virginia, Georgia Tech, Cincinnati, Wisconsin, and Western Kentucky.

Wisconsin Football is looking to upgrade its secondary via the transfer portal.

The Wisconsin football coaching staff has been working to overhaul the Badgers cornerback room since spring practice last year and bring in players that better fit their defensive scheme. This offseason should allow the Badgers to bring in enough experienced players to allow the younger prospects to continue their development.

Syeed Gibbs appeared in all 10 games for Rhode Island this past season, totaling 52 tackles, 3.0 TFLs, six pass deflections, and three interceptions — en route to receiving Freshman All-American honors for the Rams.

Wisconsin football will lose staring nickel cornerback Jason Maitre this offseason and needs to find more playable depth behind third-team All-Big Ten defensive back Ricardo Hallman and Nyzier Fourqurean.

You can expect the Wisconsin Badgers to be actively involved in the cornerback market this offseason.
