Wisconsin Badgers football head coach Luke Fickell vs. Ohio State
Oct 28, 2023; Madison, Wisconsin, USA; Wisconsin Badgers head coach Luke Fickell watches from the sideline during the second half of the NCAA football game against the Ohio State Buckeyes at Camp Randall Stadium. Ohio State won 24-10.

Coming off of a brutal loss to the Indiana Hoosiers, the Wisconsin football program will take on the Northwestern Wildcats. The Badgers, currently 5-4, are looking to snap their two-game losing streak and retain their bowl eligibility streak.

Wisconsin could yet again be without Braelon Allen this weekend. Luke Fickell told reporters earlier in the week that “it’s hard to tell” if Allen would be up to game speed come Saturday afternoon. If he can’t go, UW will once again lean on the tailback tandem of Jackson Acker and Cade Yacamelli. Both players provided serviceable reps against Indiana, as Acker and Yacamelli finished with 48 yards apiece on the day. We’ll know more as game time draws closer, but it looks like the two youngins will fill in for the injured Allen once again.

Northwestern, currently 4-5, is coming off a 10-7 loss to Iowa. Even though Pat Fitzgerald isn’t around, this looks to be the same old team in terms of on-field production. However, Northwestern does have one of the Big Ten’s best pass defenses. The Wildcats are currently ranked third in the Big Ten in pass defense, allowing just 174.1 yards per game. This secondary may be able to test the UW offense, and if the Badgers can’t fix simple mistakes made from last week, this game could be too close for comfort.
