Oddsmakers Aren’t Very High on Wisconsin Football in 2024…
FanDuel Sportsbook has released its annual college win totals for the upcoming 2024 season. Let’s just say they’re not anticipating big things from Luke Fickell and the Wisconsin Badgers football program this fall.
Coming off a 7-6 season and a loss to LSU in the ReliaQuest Bowl, Vegas oddsmakers are setting the Wisconsin Badgers over/under 6.5 wins.
The over is favored at -106 odds, and the under comes back at -115. Based on the given gambling odds, the implied probability would give Wisconsin football approximately a 52.03% chance of winning more than 6.5 games.
Let’s take a look at the Badgers schedule for the 2024 season.
2024 Wisconsin Football Schedule
- 8/31 – Western Michigan – home
- 9/7 – South Dakota – home
- 9/14 – Alabama – home
- 9/21 – Bye
- 9/28 – at USC
- 10/5 – Purdue – home
- 10/12 – at Rutgers
- 10/19 – at Northwestern
- 10/26 – Penn State – home
- 11/2 – at Iowa
- 11/9 – Bye
- 11/16 – Oregon – home
- 11/23 – at Nebraska
- 11/30 – Minnesota – home
Badgers Expectations
With the new Big Ten conference coming into full effect next season, the West Division no longer exists (RIP), and the Wisconsin football team’s path to 8-10 win seasons becomes exponentially more difficult.
Luke Fickell and company just put together one of the better recruiting classes in program history, and by all accounts, made some noteworthy transfer portal additions on defense. Hard to say in the middle of February because spring practice hasn’t even happened yet, but it looks like this Badgers team improved on paper.
That said, the offense struggled mightily, averaging a mere 23.5 points per game, its lowest scoring total in 19 years. There’s a long way to go.
I’d anticipate Wisconsin football fielding a better product this upcoming season, but this feels like the exact right line. Unless the Badgers find a way to finish games on the road, they could have a tough path to hitting the over. Either way, we’ll learn a lot about the new regime.
Rest of Big Ten
- Ohio State: 10.5
- Oregon: 10.5
- Penn State: 9.5
- Michigan: 9.5
- USC: 7.5
- Washington: 7.5
- Nebraska: 7.5
- Iowa: 7.5
- Maryland: 7.5
- Wisconsin: 6.5
- UCLA: 5.5
- Illinois: 5.5
- Indiana: 5.5
- Michigan State: 5.5
- Northwestern: 5.5
- Purdue: 4.5
- Minnesota: 4.5
There have been a lot of moving parts for the Wisconsin Badgers football program this offseason, and the Vegas Sportsbooks are not ready to buy into the changes that they have made until they see it on the field. At least things aren’t looking as bleak as they are for Minnesota.
