Madison, Wis.– Wisconsin football got some disappointing but not unexpected news Friday morning when wide receiver Markus Allen, whose been with the program for the past two seasons, announced his intentions to enter the transfer portal.

Allen took to Twitter to announce his decision:

“I will be entering the transfer portal. With 3 years of eligibility. My name will be officially entered soon…no questions or interviews.”

Per the 247Sports composite, Allen, a former four-star recruit, was the No. 380 overall prospect in the 2021 recruiting class, the No. 61 WR in the country, and the No. 10 player in Ohio.

Allen appeared in eight games for the Badgers, registering 10 catches for 156 yards and a touchdown.

The 6-foot-1, 215-pound wideout previously entered the transfer portal in October following Paul Chryst’s firing, later committing to Minnesota, only to de-commit and rejoin the Wisconsin football team (and leave again).

The Impact on the Wisconsin Football Program

Markus Allen is a player that Wisconsin fans had high hopes for when he entered the program. However, he quickly fell behind Chimere Dike, Skyler Bell, Keontez Lewis, and newcomers Will Pauling, CJ Williams, and Bryson Green on the depth chart, making a clear path to playing time uncertain moving forward.

This loss should not have any impact on the Badgers in 2023 or beyond, considering the impressive depth the new coaching staff has put together in its WR room.

As for the Ohio native, he should have plenty of options as he looks for a new school. Allen’s talent is apparent, and his potential will likely attract interest from several programs, and he will have the opportunity to choose the best fit for his long-term goals.
