A wacky, injury-riddled season led many to forget that Luke Fickell and the Wisconsin football team had some studs on their roster this season.

On Monday, it was announced that star cornerback Ricardo Hallman earned third-team All-American honors for the first time in his collegiate career.

Hallman’s sophomore season in Madison was nothing short of remarkable.

The Miami, Flordia native finished the year with six interceptions, tied for second-most in the nation. He led the Badgers to a 24-13 victory over Rutgers in Week 5 with a 95-yard pick-six, snatching a potential touchdown pass that would’ve made the matchup much more difficult for Wisconsin. Hallman also recorded 30 total tackles this season, 24 of which were solo. He notched interceptions against Georgia Southern, Purdue (x2), Rutgers, Ohio State, and Minnesota — bringing the Axe back to Madison and (kind of) ending Athan Kaliakmanis’ career with the Gophers.

Although Hallman will likely stay with the Badgers for another year, he seems destined for a career in the NFL. One could argue that he is already a top-5 cornerback in the nation — imagine how high he’ll be on the draft board with another NCAA season under his belt!

Along with senior Hunter Wohler, Hallman was a huge force in the secondary against any quarterback he faced. If both players decide to play another year in the “New Era”, Fickell, Tressel, and co. might just have an elite defense to work with ahead of a challenging 2024 schedule.
