The Wisconsin football team is commonly referred to by fans as ‘O-Line U.’ The Badgers have a track record of developing NFL-quality players on the offensive line. Before Luke Fickell and Phil Longo came to Madison a year ago, the Badgers’ depended heavily on their running game, which was made possible by having great players on the line.

Now, the Badgers are going to be looking for a new coach to lead the unit that has anchored the Wisconsin football team for years.

Jack Bicknell Jr. has been ‘re-assigned’ by the Badgers, as reported by Pete Thamel.

Bicknell Jr. came to Wisconsin with Phil Longo from North Carolina, but he has a long history of coaching offensive lines. Since 2017, he has been the offensive line coach for Ole Miss (2017-2019), Auburn (2020), Louisville (2021), North Carolina (2022) and Wisconsin (2023). He coached with Longo at Ole Miss and North Carolina before coming to Madison.

The report states that Bicknell has been ‘re-assigned’ and not fired or terminated. That usually indicates that he is still part of the staff in some way.

The Wisconsin Football Team Looking for an Offensive Line Coach

With Bicknell’s re-assignment, the Wisconsin football team has a position to fill.

They have already hired a new receivers coach after Mike Brown took a job with Notre Dame.

There will likely be no shortage of candidates for the position and of course, there are going to be a ton of names thrown around. Fans loved the idea of Fickell hiring Wisconsin football legend Joe Thomas when he was brought on. It didn’t take long before his name was brought up again.

I can’t imagine it will take Fickell and Longo very long to find Bicknell Jr.’s replacement. With recruiting and the transfer portal essentially being a 24/7 job, they will want to get their guy in there as quickly as possible.
