Greg Gard and the Wisconsin basketball team remain one of the hottest teams in the nation, taking down Tom Izzo and the Michigan State Spartans 70-57 on the road on Tuesday night.

The No. 23 ranked Badgers now improve to 7-2 (1-0 B1G) ahead of their toughest test of the season against No. 1 Arizona on Saturday.

Wisconsin Basketball Dominated the First Half

Coach Gard couldn’t have asked for a better first-half performance from his squad.

Led by A.J. Storr’s buzzer-beater three-pointer and 12 points on 4/4 shooting, the Badgers held a dominant 34-23 lead heading into the locker room.

Chucky Hepburn completely controlled the tempo of play for Wisconsin’s offense, recording five assists in the first half alone. Steven Crowl carried his terrific form over from last weekend’s victory over Marquette, notching 11 points on 3/3 shooting from beyond the arc. John Blackwell brought energy off the bench on both sides of the court and looked very comfortable with the ball in his hands.

Storr, Crowl, and Co. Stayed Red-Hot

Despite the Spartans’ efforts to bring the game within one possession early on in the second half, the Badgers stayed strong and never let go of their lead.

Storr led Wisconsin basketball with an outstanding 22-point performance, going 8/11 from the field against a sturdy Michigan State defense. Crowl shot the lights out on Tuesday evening, recording 18 points on 6/12 shooting.

No different than their 75-64 victory over Marquette, the Badgers’ interior defense was stellar against the Spartans. Wisconsin forced Izzo’s squad to shoot the three-ball and held them to only five offensive rebounds the entire game.

Wisconsin shot a perfect 14/14 from the stripe, and a solid 10/23 from beyond the arc. Blackwell finished with 10 points, making his presence felt from the bench throughout the entire clash. Tyler Wahl had a strong second half, scoring eight points after briefly exiting the matchup due to a nosebleed.

Beating Tom Izzo on the road is never an easy task. With the dominant victory, Wisconsin basketball now sports another quality win on their already impressive record, and carry even more momentum into their final game of a tough three-game stretch.

A win at Arizona on Saturday, and a spot within the top-10 should be inevitable.
