Greg Gard and the Wisconsin Badgers basketball program are just under a week away from the start of the 2023-24 season.

However, when the season begins, they’ll be without true freshman and four-star big man Gus Yalden.

Wisconsin Basketball Freshman Taking Leave of Absence

The athletic department and coach Gard issued a statement acknowledging that Gus Yalden will be taking a temporary leave of absence from the Wisconsin Badgers to tend to a family matter.

“We are in full support of Gus and will always be here for him and his family,” Gard said in a UW press release. “Gus is part of the Wisconsin basketball family, and even though he won’t be on the court with us right now, we’ll always do everything we can to help him. We look forward to his return.”

It’s also worth mentioning that the release stated that Yalden will remain in school during this leave of absence and that he’ll also continue to receive support from the team and staff. Still, he won’t be participating in Wisconsin basketball team-related activities right now.

Yalden was a member of the 2023 recruiting class that also included forward Nolan Winter, guard John Blackwell and walk-on Jack Janicki.

The Wisconsin Badgers will take on UW-Stevens Point in an exhibition later tonight in the first look at this year’s team. The game will stream on BTN+.
