Greg Gard and the Wisconsin basketball program held their annual advanced camp this past week, as they normally do. However, one surprise scholarship offer to an in-state product came after a reportedly strong performance in front of the Badgers coaching staff.

That offer went to 2025 small forward LaTrevion Fenderson (cousin of Kamari McGee), who plays for The Prairie School in Racine, Wisconsin.

As a sophomore, the 6-foot-4, 205-pound forward averaged 17.1 points and nearly 11 rebounds per game. Word on the street is that Fenderson intends to reclassify to the 2026 class, which would likely vault him into the discussion for the No. 1 player in the state — so while this offer comes unexpectedly, the Badgers coaching staff is playing the long game.

As it stands, Wisconsin is Fenderson’s only scholarship offer. Still, given his impressive athletic/physical tools, plenty of scholarship offers will come in now that Coach Gard has given him the Power 5 stamp of approval.

Why LaTrevion Fenderson Makes Sense for Wisconsin Basketball

What I love most about Wisconsin basketball pursuing LaTrevion Fenderson is that he wasn’t viewed as a big-time recruit coming into the advanced camp. But the coaching staff trusted their eyes and took the plunge — they don’t need other programs to confirm their evaluations — which I’ve always respected.

Fenderson leaps and bounds ahead of other players in his class physically for just 15 years old. There’s a ton of strength when he attacks the rim and absorbs contact well — overall, he’s a strong finisher.

But the No. 1 thing that stands out about Fenderson’s game is the explosiveness. I’ve always said Wisconsin basketball needs to recruit some tendency breakers occasionally, and I’m talking about this type of player. He effortlessly plays above the rim and has an improving jump shot that could take his game to the next level.

I favor Wisconsin betting on the upside here and offering early because he will be a problem if he continues developing.
