It always felt like it was a matter of time before Greg Gard and the Wisconsin basketball program through their hat in the ring on 2025 center Will Garlock out of Middleton (Wis.).

After getting a closer look at the unranked 6-foot-11, 215-pound center at their advanced camp, the Badgers coaching staff pulled the trigger and offered him a scholarship, according to a report from Prep Hoops scout Michael Hansen.

“It’s kind of a dream come true,” Garlock said.

As a sophomore at Middleton High School, Garlock averaged 11 points and six rebounds per game for the Cardinals but has seen his stock rise considerably this summer playing for Wisconsin Playground on the AAU circuit.

As it stands, Garlock holds scholarship offers from Marquette, Virginia Tech, and now Wisconsin but has been hearing from Iowa, Iowa State, Purdue, Minnesota, and Belmont as well.

Why Will Garlock Makes Sense for Wisconsin Basketball

Considering how Wisconsin basketball has scouted, recruited, and developed big stretch men over the past 20 years, sending out an offer to Will Garlock seems like a no-brainer.

He has a way to go regarding physical maturation, but the tools he already has in his game are impressive. Garlock moves exceptionally well and can run the floor better than most players his size (sometimes even pushing the pace off a missed basket).

Additionally, Garlock has decent footwork already and a nice touch that allows him to score on the low block when he gets aggressive. But the kicker is his budding faceup game and improving three-point shot. He’s the same type of stretch big man that Wisconsin basketball covets and has a rich tradition of developing over the years.

From a defensive standpoint, there’s plenty to like regarding his rim protection and lateral movement skills. I think Garlock is the perfect type of player for Wisconsin to target systematically.
