Wisconsin Basketball: Connor Essegian Receives All-Freshman Honors

Published

on

The Wisconsin basketball program had one of their standout contributors receive all-conference honors on Tuesday afternoon.

Freshman Connor Essegian was named to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team.

The news comes after an impressive first season for Essegian. The Indiana native finished the regular season averaging 11.9 points and 3.5 rebounds per game. He hit 41.7% of his shots from the field, including 38.8% from beyond the arc.

A season to remember for Wisconsin basketball star Connor Essegian

Essegian was an essential contributor in his first season with the Wisconsin basketball program.

Essegian became the all-time leader in three-pointers made by a freshman, surpassing Brad Davison’s record of 60 made threes. The 6-foot-4, 185-pound guard was one of the bright spots this year for the Badgers, and he has received well-deserved recognition for his outstanding play.

Essegian is the eighth player in UW history to receive All-Freshman team honors. He joins an elite group including Chucky Hepburn, Brad Davison, Ethan Happ, Nigel Hayes, Sam Dekker, Joe Krabbenhoft, and Alando Tucker.

Essegian will be an essential piece for the Wisconsin basketball program in years to come. With young reinforcements coming in 2023, the Badgers will have plenty of youth to build around.

Essegian’s hot hand has kept the Badgers afloat as they fight for an NCAA Tournament bid. Wisconsin will take on Ohio State on Wednesday in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament, looking to secure a much-needed win.

Congratulations on an outstanding season to Connor Essegian!
