Three Things: Wisconsin basketball vs. Penn State

Published

on

Wisconsin basketball looks to continue its dominance over Penn State as they head to Happy Valley for a huge matchup with the Nittany Lions. Having won 17 out of the last 18 meetings against Penn State, Wisconsin continued that streak with a huge overtime win 79-74. Here are three things from the win.

Backcourt Buckets

The badgers have found a lethal backcourt, which is something to watch when they get hot. Connor Essegian and Chucky Hepburn carried Wisconsin offensively this evening. Including some monster shots down the stretch. Chucky finished with 19 points and 5 three-pointers, while Connor finished with 18 points and 4 threes. Connor has been unbelievable as a Freshman, and it almost seems surprising when he misses. Chucky had the ultimate bounce-back game. After many fans questioned his late game heroic attempts against Northwestern. Tonight, you saw why the Badgers trust him with the ball in his hands late in the game.

Is Tyler Wahl Back?

Tyler Wahl certainly hasn’t had the season that I’m sure he hoped for. However, tonight seemed like the first time since returning from the ankle injury that we saw the real Tyler. Timely buckets and 16 points aren’t anything new for him; however, how about the 8 assists and taking on the challenge of defending Jalen Pickett down the stretch. Tyler did it all for Wisconsin basketball tonight, I hope this continues because the Badgers certainly need it.

Outside Looking In

This was such a massive game not only in the Big Ten standings but also for the NCAA tournament. Wisconsin basketball has a long way to go if they want to be dancing in March; tonight was a great start. Entering tonight’s game, the Badgers were in the next four-out category, while Penn State was in the first four-out. Now that Wisconsin has swept the season series, I would assume they move ahead of Penn State. The remaining schedule that awaits Wisconsin basketball for this season’s final stretch only sees 2 ranked teams in their final 7 games. Let’s see if the Badgers can string together some wins heading into the Big Ten tournament.

Not to mention, Penn State was 11-1 at home this year and was coming off a huge win over Michigan last time at home. This was a fantastic win for Wisconsin basketball.
