Wisconsin Football Pencils in Visit With 3-Star OL Isaac Sowells

Wisconsin jumped into the mix for three-star offensive lineman Isaac Sowells last week.

The offer came through on the same day the Kentucky native trimmed his list of schools down to ten. Sowells’ recruitment is still open, so despite jumping in late, the Badgers were able to lock in a visit with Sowells during spring practice.

“Wisconsin, I know, is an offensive line powerhouse,” Sowells told Badgernotes. “Just the energetic feeling that Coach Blazek has me intrigued about learning more about the school.”

According to the composite rankings, Sowells is the No. 703 prospect in the nation, the No. 55 interior lineman, and the No. 5 player in Kentucky.

It will be an uphill battle for the Badgers to get a commitment from the Louisville Male High School standout, but the upcoming visit will give UW a chance to move up into that top group. Should they make their way up, Wisconsin will battle against NC State, Miami, Kentucky, Indiana, Virginia, South Carolina, West Virginia, Penn State, Vanderbilt, and Louisville.

Badgers Specialist Attending NFL Combine Showcase

The NFL Combine kicked off yesterday, and several former Badgers made their way to Indianapolis for the three-day event. This year’s Combine had something new in the fold, though, as the NFL will host a Specialist Showcase for some kickers, punters, and long snappers to get some better looks.

Wisconsin LS Peter Bowden was one of several long snappers invited to attend the brand-new event.

Bowden spent five seasons with the Wisconsin football program, with three seasons spent as a starter. During his final two years, Bowden was on the Patrick Mannelly Award watchlist — given to the nation’s top long snapper — being named a semi-finalist in 2022 and a finalist in 2023.

Bowden joins Braelon Allen, Tanor Bortolini, and Maema Njongmeta as former Badgers attending the Combine.

Wisconsin Football to Add Major Facility Upgrades

The University of Wisconsin announced on Wednesday that the State Building Commission has approved the construction of a brand-new indoor football practice facility.

“This is another exciting step in the process,” UW Athletic Director Chris McIntosh said. “We are grateful for the support of the State Building Commission, but also from so many different stakeholders. Launched by a generous leadership gift of $20 million from Ted and Mary Kellner, we are thrilled with the enthusiasm and investment in our athletic department and specifically our football program.”

The new facility is valued at $285 million, a big-time investment for the future.

With the project slated to begin in 2025, the Wisconsin Badgers football program’s new indoor field will replace the Camp Randall Memorial Sports Center and the current practice field in the McClain Center.
