Wisconsin football running back’s coach Devon Spalding will have one of his top recruiting targets in the 2025 class at practice this weekend.

John Forster, a highly-touted four-star tailback from Montvale, New Jersey, will attend the Badgers’ spring practice on April 6. Wisconsin Football offered Forster a scholarship towards the end of February, and he is high on their list of potential targets for the 2025 class.

“My relationship with coach Spalding has been really good,” Forster shared with Badgernotes. “He’s had many great running backs, which shows how well he develops his players.”

Ranked as the nation’s 27th running back and the 9th player in New Jersey according to composite recruiting rankings, Forster has attracted attention from several other prominent programs. His offer list includes Rutgers, Illinois, James Madison, Liberty, Maryland, Minnesota, Nebraska, Penn State, Syracuse, West Virginia, Pittsburgh, and Tennessee, among others.

During his junior season at St Joseph Regional High School, Forster carried the ball 50 times for 311 yards and five touchdowns, according to MaxPreps. Forster also caught 14 passes for 114 yards and another score.

Forster displayed power between the tackles, versatility, and adeptness as a pass-catcher—qualities that align well with what Wisconsin football head coach Luke Fickell values in a running back for his system.

With the Badgers’ recent recruitment of three running backs in the 2024 cycle, including Dilin Jones, Darrion Dupree, and Gideon Ituka, bringing in more than one in this class is less important.

That said, Forster is a key prospect on the Wisconsin football recruiting board in 2025 after missing on a few targets in this cycle.

The Wisconsin Badgers staff hopes to impress Forster enough to earn an official visit from the talented back later this summer.
