Wisconsin Badgers football recruiting target Tariq Hayer was initially planning to announce his college decision on Christmas Day before announcing he would postpone.

At the time, UW was considered one of the top options alongside Maryland and Penn State, but the Badgers held a Crystal Ball prediction to land his services

Since postponing his commitment date, Hayer made a visit to Miami and has started to garner some significant attention from some SEC programs.

On Monday, Hayer announced a pair of offers from Texas A&M and Auburn, raising his total offer list to 27 schools.

Hayer received offers from SEC programs, including Ole Miss and South Carolina, all the way back in 2022, but he’s started to pick up some attention once again.

According to the industry-generated composite rankings, Hayer is the No. 114 player in the nation, the No. 15 cornerback, and the No. 2 player in the District of Columbia.

The St John’s High School standout has taken multiple visits to Madison, stopping for an unofficial in June before making his way back down to UW for the primetime matchup against Ohio State.

It will be interesting to see if Wisconsin can stay among Hayer’s top choices after former Badgers safeties coach Colin Hitschler, who was Hayer’s primary recruiter, left for a job with Kalen DeBoer at Alabama. However, UW still has his secondary recruiter, cornerback coach Paul Haynes, to keep in contact with Hayer. Haynes was able to seal the deal with four-star ATH Jaimier Scott despite Hitschler’s departure, so it will be worth monitoring if he can lock this one down, too.

The Wisconsin football program still holds a Crystal Ball prediction for Hayer and currently has the No. 10 recruiting class in the country, per the 247Sports rankings.
