After landing a commitment from 2025 4-star defensive back Jaimier Scott, the Wisconsin Badgers football program got some positive news on the recruiting front.

Zadian “Zay” Gentry, who is considered a four-star cornerback according to On3 and a three-star per the composite rankings, announced his top eight schools on social media.

A native of McKinney, Texas, Gentry listed Auburn, TCU, SMU, Arkansas, Baylor, Nebraska, Oregon State, and the Wisconsin Badgers as his Top 8 schools he’ll focus on moving forward.

Standing at 6-feet-1 inch and weighing 165 pounds, Gentry is ranked among the top 400 players in the 2025 cycle. Additionally, he holds the standing of No. 39 as a CB in the country.

Wisconsin Football in the Mix for 2025 Cornerback Zay Gentry

Wisconsin football coaches offered Zadian Gentry a scholarship back in October and have worked their way into the mix with the high-three-star cornerback in short order.

The Badgers are also in deep with 4-star corner Tariq Hayer, but they don’t currently have any cornerback commits in the 2025 cycle.

Considering the Wisconsin football coach’s track record of finding and developing defensive backs on the recruiting trail with similar measurables, the Badgers have positioned themselves to continue adding length in their secondary.

The new look Big Ten will require versatile and dynamic athletes at all levels of the defense to compete, and there has been a noticeable shift in recruiting philosophy from this staff since they took over to try and find better fits for their desired scheme.

According to the composite rankings, Luke Fickell and company have the No. 9 recruiting class in the country.
