Wisconsin Football Coaching Staff Still Pursuing Transfer Portal Upgrades
If you thought the Wisconsin football coaching staff was finished adding to its roster for the 2023 season? Think again.
Wisconsin defensive backs coach Paul Haynes contacted Air Force transfer cornerback Mike Mack II earlier this week and offered him a scholarship, which he announced on social media.
The 6-foot-1, 185-pound cornerback was a pre-season All-Mountain West selection. He had 20 career games under his belt playing for the Air Force Academy, where he registered 69 tackles, four pass deflections, 2.5 TFLs, and an interception.

“I Just want to give myself a bigger shot at playing on Sundays,” Mack said. “Get myself a better opportunity to increase my game and potentially play for a national championship.”
Currently, Mack doesn’t have a visit scheduled to Madison since everything is coming together last minute, and we’re heading into a dead period–but it’s on his radar.
“I’ve heard nothing except wonderful things about the campus and environment,” Mack told BadgerNotes. “I have received offers from Wisconsin, NC State, and Oregon State. Wisconsin is definitely in consideration right now.”
Mack has two years of starting experience under his belt and would have up to three additional years of eligibility remaining. However, he would need to obtain an NCAA waiver to play in 2023 due to academy rules.
Wisconsin Football Cornerback Room Outlook
Exiting spring practice, the Wisconsin football coaching staff felt good about their top three options, Alexander Smith, Ricardo Hallman, and slot corner Jason Maitre.
However, the depth behind them was questionable at best, so UW added division two all-american Nyzier Fourqurean into the mix to give the Badgers another boundary option.
That said, there is still a need for bodies, preferable ones with experience, following the departure of three cornerbacks to the transfer portal. If Wisconsin could add another lengthy defensive back that’s played meaningful snaps, incoming freshman Jonas Duclona and Jace Arnold could develop more reasonably before being thrust into action.
