Madison, Wis. — After spring practice, Luke Fickell and the Wisconsin football coaching staff left feeling great about their top three cornerbacks, Alexander Smith, Ricardo Hallman, and Jason Maitre. However, the depth behind them was suspect, which led to a slew of transfers, making an offseason transfer portal addition a must.

After sifting through the portal searching for a system fit with multiple years of eligibility, the Badgers found their man. Wisconsin coaches worked tirelessly behind the scenes to flip former Grand Valley State defensive back and offseason Vanderbilt commit Nyzier Fourqurean.

Fourqurean was the No. 70 transfer cornerback. After entering the portal, the former All-American picked up offers from Tulane, Charlotte, James Madison, and Georgia Southern.

As a sophomore, the 6-foot-1, 185-pound CB registered 28 tackles, 14 pass deflections, and four interceptions. During Fourqurean’s freshman year at Grand Valley State, he totaled 13 tackles and one pass breakup.

The former Division 2 All-American cornerback reunites with his former head coach Matt Mitchell, now leading the Wisconsin football outside linebackers. It’s believed that their previous connection played a significant factor in UW completing the flip.

Nyzier Fourqurean took to Twitter to announce his commitment to the University of Wisconsin football program.

Final Thoughts on Wisconsin Football Adding Nyzier Fourqurean

Wisconsin football stayed patient and found an experienced player with impressive size (6-foot-1, shocker) that should be able to come in and compete immediately for snaps this fall.

With two years of eligibility, Nyzier Fourqurean will help solidify a two-deep that features two true freshmen, Jonas Duclona and Jace Arnold.

The thought process here has to be that Fourqurean fills in on the boundary in 2023 and provides meaningful depth while positioning himself to start in Alexander Smith’s spot in 2024 opposite Ricardo Hallman.
