Wisconsin Badgers special team’s captain and outside linebacker Marty Strey said goodbye to the football program, his teammates, and the entire fanbase in a heartfelt post on social media.

“Being a Badger has filled me with so much gratitude,” Strey wrote. “I’m thankful for the relationships I have built with countless people, including some of my best friends. I’m thankful to have worn the Motion W across my chest and given everything to this program.

“And I’m thankful for the opportunity to have lived out my dream as a Wisconsin Badger.”

Hailing from nearby Sun Prairie, Marty Strey initially joined the Wisconsin football program as a walk-on in 2018 under head coach Paul Chryst after earning first-team all-state honors as a senior.

The 6-foot-2, 235-pound outside linebacker worked his way up from walk-on to special team’s captain and was even placed on scholarship this past spring under head coach Luke Fickell.

According to Pro Football Focus, Strey logged a team-high 183 special team’s snaps for the Badgers this past season and finished with a 73.6 grade, which is considered high quality by their metric.

His positivity, leadership, and work ethic will all be missed within the Wisconsin football program.

Best of luck to Marty Strey in whatever comes next.
