Wisconsin basketball is plenty familiar with dabbling in the transfer portal. After missing the 2023 NCAA Tournament, Wisconsin Badgers head coach Greg Gard knew he needed help on the wing. AJ Storr’s arrival in Madison added a much-needed scoring punch. After a year leading Wisconsin in scoring, the Illinois native appears on his way out. Storr has entered the transfer portal and declared for the NBA Draft.

Much like the last off-season, Gard needs to find a difference-maker on the wing again. His number-one option from the transfer portal has been on campus already, and recently announced a list of top four schools.

Frankie Fidler Announces Top Four Transfer Options

Wisconsin Badgers basketball has reached out to transfer portal wing Frankie Fidler from Omaha

Omaha’s forward Frankie Fidler (23) passes the ball against Texas Tech in a non-conference basketball game, Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2023, at United Supermarkets Arena.

On Thursday, Frankie Fidler announced the final four schools he is choosing from during his recruitment in the transfer portal. The scorer out of Omaha of the Summit League tallied 20.1 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game in his junior season. Add an impressive 35.6% shooting from three, and you see the appeal of adding the Bellevue, Nebraska native. Then, when you realize he is one of the best in the country at drawing contact, getting to the free throw line, and sinking foul shots, you realize he is a truly impressive three-level threat.

Wisconsin basketball, Michigan State, Nebraska, and Creighton made the top four. Fidler has already completed visits to Nebraska, Creighton, and Wisconsin. He scheduled a visit with Tom Izzo and the Michigan State Spartans for April 12th after the current recruiting dead period ends.

Chucky Hepburn Shows Frankie Fidler Wisconsin Basketball

Part of the Wisconsin Badgers’ appeal to Fidler is point guard Chucky Hepburn. Not only is he a fellow Bellevue native, but the two have shared the floor together. The pair of high school teammates have a longstanding friendship. Gard is tapping into that unique connection in hopes of landing Fidler.

On his Instagram story, Hepburn revealed that he was accompanying Fidler on his official visit with Wisconsin basketball. Say what you will about Gard’s recruiting, but he certainly appears to be pushing the right buttons on this recruitment. In lieu of having the First Team All-Summit League talent wear a generic cardinal and white jersey, Gard had him don Hepburn’s own jersey. Not just Hepburn’s jersey but an alternate jersey that the point guard himself helped design. The Badgers coach has a flair for the dramatic.
