The Wisconsin basketball program had a huge matchup with 3rd-ranked Marquette on Saturday afternoon—one of the best rivalries in all college basketball. Wisconsin was looking to win its 3rd straight for the first time in this rivalry history. After an impressive first half for the Badgers, they were able to hold on and complete the upset 75-64.

Here are 3 takeaways from the win.

Max Klesmit Was on Fire for Wisconsin Basketball

Max Klesmit or Stephen Curry? In the first half, I couldn’t see a difference. Max was absolutely on fire, knocking down 5 threes and scoring 21 points in the first 20 minutes.

Although he didn’t score in the second half, Max was the reason for the 13-point lead at the half. Not to mention his continued effort on the defensive end and hustle for loose balls. Overall, it was a massive game for Klesmit and was a significant reason Wisconsin basketball got the upset.

Badgers Were Dominant on the Glass

Much like the Virginia game, Wisconsin basketball dominated the glass. Getting second chance opportunities on one end and limiting them to one shot on the other end. They finished outrebounding the Golden Eagles 38-23, including 15-7 on the offensive glass. Can’t forget the 18-2 on second-chance points.

If the Badgers continue to rebound this well, they will have a chance in every game.

Tough Road Ahead for Wisconsin Basketball

This is an outstanding win for Wisconsin basketball. Unfortunately, there is not much time to celebrate as the gauntlet schedule continues. Next week, we will see the Badgers taking on Michigan State and Arizona on the road. With the Purdue loss last night, one could assume that Arizona will be the number 1 team in the country when Wisconsin visits them.

It will be another massive test for Wisconsin, and the way this group competes, don’t count them out.

Another thing to add: Wisconsin basketball went 24/28 from the free-throw line. Wow!
