Wisconsin Basketball: In-State Guard Enters the Transfer Portal
The Badgers walk-on will pursue other opportunities.
Wisconsin Badgers redshirt freshman guard Luke Haertle has announced his intentions to enter the transfer portal after two seasons as a walk-on with the basketball program.
Haertle, a Wisconsin native, announced his decision to transfer on social media just days after the Badgers’ disappointing NCAA Tournament exit against James Madison in the Round of 64.
“Thank you Madison for the past two years,” Haertle wrote. “I am entering the portal with 3 years of eligibility left!”

The 6-foot-4, 215-pound walk-on will now begin his search for a new home in the transfer portal with three years of eligibility remaining at his next stop.
Luke Haertle Moving on From Wisconsin Basketball
Luke Haertle initially joined the Wisconsin basketball program as a preferred walk-on after a standout career at Lake Country Lutheran, where he garnered all-state honors three times.
After taking a redshirt year as a freshman last season, Haertle found himself behind the likes of Chucky Hepburn, Max Klesmit, John Blackwell, Connor Essegian, and Kamari McGee on the Wisconsin Badgers backcourt depth chart, so opportunities were limited.
During his career, Haertle appeared in 11 games and grabbed two rebounds while playing an important role on the Badgers scout team.
Haertle is now the third known Wisconsin basketball player to have entered the transfer portal since the season ended, joining Connor Essegian and fellow walk-on Ross Candelino.
