Sophomore guard AJ Storr, who spent one season with the Wisconsin basketball program, is entering his name into the 2024 NBA Draft.

“To the incredible fans of the Wisconsin Badgers, as I sit down to write this message, I’m overwhelmed with gratitude for the University of Wisconsin,” Storr wrote. “This journey as a student athlete has been one of the most profound experiences of my life. The unwavering support, guidance, and opportunities I’ve received from this community have been truly amazing.

“Joining this program under Coach Gard has been a dream come true. It’s been my lifelong ambition to play basketball at the highest level, I find myself at a pivotal moment. I have decided to engage and experience the NBA draft process, all while maintaining my college eligibility. To my family, your unwavering support and encouragement helped keep alive my dream of one day playing in the NBA.

“As I pondered this next step, I’m reminded of a quote from one my favorite player, Kobe Bryant, which resonates deeply with me: “The most important thing is to try and inspire people so that they can be great in whatever they want to do.” My time here has been filled with moments of inspiration, thanks to you all. My aim has always been to inspire and be inspired, to push boundaries, and to redefine limits, just as Kobe did throughout his career. The memories, lessons, and friendships I’ve made here will forever be a part of who I am. Thank you, Badger Nation, for everything. With all my heart, AJ.”

Wisconsin Basketball Guard AJ Storr Entering the Draft

Storr, a former top 100 recruit, began his college career at St. John’s, where he was named to the Big East All-Freshman team after averaging 8.8 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 0.9 assists per game.

Storr, an Illinois native, entered the transfer portal and found a home with the Badgers. Under the guidance of Greg Gard and the Wisconsin basketball coaching staff, he blossomed into a more well-rounded talent.

Storr led the Badgers in scoring this past season, averaging 16.8 points per game while grabbing 3.9 rebounds per contest on 43% shooting from the field, earning second-team All-Big Ten honors.

Furthermore, it’s worth mentioning that Storr scored ten or more points in 34 out of the 36 games played by the Wisconsin Badgers, maintaining this streak in each of his last 31 contests. In short, he’s a bucket.

“It appears he’s extremely appreciative for the growth he’s had this year, because we’ve coached him pretty hard, and he’s been very receptive to it,” Gard told reporters. “I’ve said all along he might be our most improved player.”

His stint with the Wisconsin basketball program proved mutually beneficial, even if it lasted only one season. Storr is also opting not to hire an agent, leaving a potential return on the table.
