In the season opener, the Wisconsin Badgers basketball team put a smackdown on Arkansas State, defeating the Red Wolves 105-76

Yet, lost in the convincing victory was an injury to sophomore shooting guard Connor Essegian, who left the court prematurely and never returned.

The incident occurred when he was battling for a rebound, and an Arkansas State defender tumbled over his back, leading to a fall. Following this collision, Essegian stayed lying on the court until he was examined by a trainer and helped off the court.

At halftime, Essegian was deemed questionable for the second half due to an upper-body injury. He was seen throughout all of the second half off to the side pedaling on a stationary bike.

Prior to the injury, the 6-foot-4 guard scored four points by making 2-of-3 shots in just five minutes of play. He entered the game as the third Wisconsin basketball player off the bench, following Nolan Winter and Carter Gilmore.

Wisconsin Basketball Provides Update (Or Lack Thereof) On Connor Essegian After the Game

During his postgame media availability, Wisconsin Badgers head coach Greg Gard was asked to address the injury to Connor Essegian and see if there were any updates.

“We’ll see how he feels tomorrow and the next day,” Gard told reporters.

Following that answer, Gard was quick to re-direct and talk about Isaac Lindsey — who matched a career-high eight points and two assists in 17 minutes of relief.

Last season, Essegian averaged 11.7 points per game while shooting 35.9% from beyond the arc and 40.4% from the field. The hope is that he’ll progress enough to be available for Wisconsin basketball on Friday night against No. 9 Tennessee. If not, you can expect a healthy dose of John Blackwell and Lindsey off the bench.
