The Naismith Men’s College Player of the Year Midseason List was released today. The award is given annually to the best player in college basketball.  AJ Storr, the Wisconsin basketball team’s leading scorer and a big reason for their success this season, did not make the list.

In his first year at Wisconsin, Storr’s impact on the Wisconsin basketball program this year has been immense. He has provided an offensive threat that hasn’t been in Madison since Johnny Davis. He has helped lead the Badgers to an AP ranking as high as No. 6 just two weeks ago.

In 25 games this season, AJ Storr is averaging 16.3 points per game, 3.7 rebounds, and 0.9 assists per game. He also has a Player Efficiency Rating (PER) of 19.7 and a Win Share (an estimate of the number of wins contributed by a player due to their offense and defense) of 2.3, according to sports-reference.com.

AJ Storr Left Off the Naismith Award Midseason List

The list included 30 players from all over the country.

Most of the players are ones you’d expect to see. Purdue’s Zach Edey (the reigning Naismith Player of the Year), Hunter Dickinson, Tyler Kolek, Kyle Filipowski, etc.

Some could make the argument that AJ Storr should be on the list due to his impact on the floor for the Badgers. He was off to a hot start. In his first 21 games, he led the Badgers to a 16-5 record, averaging 16.5 points per game with a true shooting percentage of 55 percent.

In the last four games, however, he has averaged just 15.5 points per game with a true shooting percentage of just 47 percent. In that stretch, he has gone just 1-14 from three (7 percent), dropping his season total below 30 percent on the year.

Even though he didn’t make the Naismith Men’s College Player of the Year Midseason List, AJ Storr has still proven to be an extremely valuable player for the Wisconsin basketball team, and if (when) he gets out of his offensive slump, the Badgers will likely be back on the rise just as tournament play begins.
