Wisconsin Badgers head basketball coach Greg Gard and his staff are still in the mix for one of their top targets in the 2025 recruiting class.

Three-star power forward EJ Walker from Lloyd High School in Earlinger, Kentucky, dropped his top 12 schools on Friday afternoon, and the Wisconsin Badgers made the cut alongside Dayton, Iowa, West Virginia, Louisville, Illinois, Purdue, South Carolina, Minnesota, Xavier, Cal, and Ohio State.

“Wisconsin has been consistent in my recruitment, and I have a great relationship with the coaches,” Walker told Badgernotes. “Players in my position in the past have been successful there.”

According to the composite recruiting rankings, Walker is the No. 156 player in his class, the No. 30 PF, and the No. 2 player in Kentucky.

The Wisconsin basketball program has been aggressively after EJ Walker since offering him in May last year. He is considered one of the Badgers’ top targets in the 2025 recruiting class.

Assistant coach Sharif Chambliss has been the lead recruiter for the 6-foot-8, 220-pound forward, who has visited Madison twice unofficially, once in June and more recently in November when UW played Tennessee.

“The staff was great on both my recruiting visits,” Walker told Badgernotes. “They make it feel like home, and it’s a family atmosphere. Coach Chambliss checks in on me a lot.”

On the court, Walker has a unique combination of size, athleticism, and ball skills, making Walker a versatile piece that could fit in any offense.

He can push the ball in transition, win down on the low block with strength and footwork, or put the ball on the deck and slash to the hoop. The Kentucky native is also a good passer and can facilitate for his teammates in the half-court or on the break. Plus, he’s got an improving jump shot that could raise his ceiling exponentially.

EJ Wakler intends to take an official visit with the Wisconsin basketball team sometime after his season is over, but he has yet to set a date.

As it stands, the Wisconsin Badgers have one commit in the 2025 recruiting class in three-star shooting guard Zach Kinziger from De Pere.
