Following the recent announcement by the University of Wisconsin basketball program regarding Gus Yalden’s temporary leave of absence from the team, the freshman big man has expressed his feelings on social media — to put any rumors out there to rest.

In a heartfelt message shared on X (formerly known as Twitter), Yalden made it clear that he intends to rejoin the Badgers in the future.

“I want to say thank you, Badger Nation, for all the love and support,” he wrote on social media. “This is what makes Wisconsin a truly special place, and I couldn’t be happier to call it my home.

“I’m extremely grateful to have this much-needed time with my family, and I appreciate the continued support from Coach Gard, the rest of the staff, my teammates, and support staff.

“Playing for Wisconsin has been a goal and dream of mine since I was a kid, and I’m looking forward to seeing Badger Nation at the Kohl Center soon. On, Wisconsin!”

Wisconsin Basketball Fans Can Take a Deep Breath

The news of Gus Yalden’s leave of absence from the Wisconsin basketball team sent some within the Badgers fanbase into a negative headspace almost instantly.

Far too often, fans seem to forget these are people with lives outside of the sport — and those situations should always come first. If and when Yalden returns to the Badgers frontcourt, he’ll be a welcomed addition. Either way, he has a bright future within the program — so kudos to the Wisconsin basketball coaches for standing behind a promising young man and supporting him through a tough situation.

Wisconsin is set to kick off its basketball season, scheduled for 7 p.m. on Monday night, with a home game against visiting Arkansas State.
