The Wisconsin Badgers Athletics Department informed season ticket holders that there would not be an open spring football practice this year due to ongoing construction at Camp Randall Stadium — instead hosting one it August.

“With the onset of a new college football postseason format on the horizon, Camp Randall Stadium has been undergoing the installation of a heated playing surface,” UW said in a press release. “First-round College Football Playoff games will be played at school host sites beginning in 2024 and Wisconsin will complete the project to ensure a safe playing surface for games that could be played into December.

“Along with the new turf playing surface, Camp Randall will also see improvements to its videoboard displays for the 2024 season. Enhancements to the north videoboard and LED ribbon boards around the stadium will continue to improve the fan experience at live events at Camp Randall.”

Despite statements issued from UW athletics saying there is not an official open spring practice, Badgernotes.com has since learned from multiple sources close to the situation that Luke Fickell and the Wisconsin football program intend to hold an open spring practice. It is scheduled to take place on April 27, with a location to be determined. Sources have said it could be a local high school or possibly a larger facility.
