Luke Fickell and the University of Wisconsin football program have intensified their recruitment of cornerback Zay Gentry for the 2025 class, and early indications suggest it’s paying off.

On Wednesday, Gentry announced his top five schools. Looking ahead, Gentry will focus on SMU, Baylor, Missouri, Oklahoma State, and the Wisconsin Badgers going into the summer.

According to the composite recruiting rankings, Gentry is the No. 419 player in his class and the No. 38 cornerback in the country.

Wisconsin Football Hosting Zay Gentry on an Official Visit

While not considered the favorite at this time, the Wisconsin football coaching staff will have a chance to flip the script when Gentry takes his official recruiting visit to Madison on May 31.

National analyst Mike Roach has made a crystal ball prediction for the 6-foot-1, 165-pound defensive back to commit to SMU under head coach Rhett Lashlee. Lashlee notably served as the offensive coordinator for Wisconsin Badgers transfer quarterback Tyler Van Dyke during his breakout redshirt freshman season at Miami.

During his junior season at McKinney High School in Texas, Gentry notched 41 tackles, four pass breakups, and two interceptions.

Wisconsin football cornerbacks coach Paul Haynes has taken the lead in recruiting Gentry. According to a source familiar with the matter speaking to Badgernotes.com, the Badgers staff holds Gentry in extremely high regard and is eager to get him into their recruiting class.

So far, the Wisconsin football team has commitments in the 2025 class from Jaimier Scott and Remington Moss.
