The boys were buzzing inside the McClain Center Thursday morning, and the energy and tempo from head coach Luke Fickell and the Wisconsin Badgers football team was palpable.

Here are my observations from the Wisconsin football team’s sixth spring practice.

Observations From Wisconsin Football Spring Practice No. 6

Both quarterbacks had a decent day. Tyler Van Dyke had a couple of nice throws across the middle and showed how strong his arm was. He did telegraph an interception as he stared down the receiver and almost threw it through the No. 7 on Jaheim Thomas’ chest.

Braedyn Locke continues to impress me. He was in his bag in 7v7 and was slicing and dicing. He displayed good arm strength with tight-window throws and great accuracy/touch on a couple of red zone touchdown passes to Will Pauling and Trech Kekahuna.

Lulu Locke continues to sling that thing all over the yard.

Kekahuha, the Hawaiian sensation, can scoot! I can say with some certainty that he is not human. The way Kekahuna cuts in and out of breaks and eludes defenders is something you don’t see often. Yeah, he’s a Sunday guy. I need a quality nickname for him. I was workshopping “wiggles” but I am not sure that’s the one. Suggestions are welcome.

Kyan Berry-Johnson, aka KBJ, had a nice morning too. He had some nice moments of making “hands catches” and showing impressive burst in and out of cuts. The guy is a ball player.

Tackett Curtis in the A-gap is nightmare fuel for any running back. My goodness someone that big should not be allowed to move the way he does. I am questioning if he is human also.

Wisconsin football inside linebacker Landon Gauthier is a name to keep an eye on in the future. He has a great burst and size while showing a nice physicality. In a cycle that saw the linebacker’s room all but overhauled, Gauthier is an underrated player for the future in Mike Tressel’s defense.

Speaking of Wisconsin Football Defensive Coordinator Mike Tressel, his energy is intoxicating. He was out there running routes to show his ‘backers the correct depth, and his attention to detail is very impressive. I am uber high on him and the defense in 2024.

Riley Nowakowski is a very good tight end. Lost in the shuffle of a young tight-end room, Nowakowski continues to be so damn dependable. Sure-handed and good routes. DAWWWG!

Nathanial Vakos. Big T.E.A.M player. How many kickers are running scout team wide receiver to help out his team? Hot take – not a terrible route runner either.

Wisconsin football wide receivers Coach Kenny Guiton can still huck that pigskin. During individual drills wide receivers Coach Guiton was spinning that thang! If he is looking for some qaulity cardio this summer before fall camp starts – he can absolutely play in the UFL today. For crying out loud – Adrian Martinez is currently playing in that league.

Wait? The guy that couldn’t do anything at Nebraska? Yeah, that one.

Tawee Walker is an animal – a honey badger, if you will. Size is of no concern to him, and I don’t know if he’s ever avoided contact. He welcomes all comers and is a merchant of pain. What a great add to the Wisconsin football team’s running back room.

Jonas Duclona continues to make plays for the secondary and is like a shadow on his defender. He is locking up all challengers and can push for significant time this season.

It does appear we have a brewing controversy with Hunter Wohler at this time. During practice, it was noticed that he was eating a fun size pack of Sour Patch Kids.

Outside of the obvious – he is one of us – it did appear that Wohler was eating the Watermelon mix. True Sour Patch Kids fans will note that only true sociopaths eat that mid-flavor.

Braedyn Moore is a menace. He plays the safety position like you love to see. He flies around with very good intensity and is always locked in. Always willing to stick his face in the fan of a running back coming downhill.
