The Wisconsin Badgers football program has already pieced together a nice class early in the 2025 recruiting cycle. As it stands, UW holds seven commitments in the cycle, good for the No. 9 recruiting class in the country.

Wisconsin is trending in a positive direction for several prospects, as the Badgers hold Crystal Ball predictions for a pair of 2025 targets and have made the cut as finalists for a few others.

On Wednesday, four-star DL Maxwell Roy trimmed down his list of schools to six, and Wisconsin made the cut.

According to the industry-generated composite rankings, Roy is the No. 146 player in the nation, the No. 17 DL, and the No. 2 player in Pennsylvania.

Roy has tallied 17 total offers, but his revised list will include Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio State, Rutgers, Oregon, and Duke.

The 6-foot-3, 270-pound defensive lineman has a connection to Madison, as he played with 2024 Badgers signee Omillio Agard at St. Joseph’s Prep. Roy is now the second player out of St. Joseph’s to list UW among their list of finalists, joining four-star LB Anthony Sacca

Former safeties coach Colin Hitschler primarily recruited Roy with some help from DL coach Greg Scruggs, who left the Wisconsin football program for a job at Michigan. Despite the departure of his two main points of contact, UW is still well-positioned for the four-star standout.

As a junior, the top-150 prospect notched 47 tackles, 15 TFLs, and three sacks, helping St. Joseph’s Prep to a Pennsylvania state championship. It’s also worth noting that Roy competes as a wrestler, which translates very well on the field with his strength, flexibility, and power at the point of contact.

With Roy’s connection to UW, this recruitment will be one worth keeping an eye on.

The Wisconsin Badgers have yet to pick up a defensive line commitment in the 2025 recruiting cycle.
