Wisconsin football defensive end Tommy Brunner is heading to the transfer portal after three seasons with the Badgers.

The redshirt senior transferred to UW after spending two seasons at Northern Illinois and will look for a new home with one year of eligibility remaining.

Before coming to UW, Brunner had not seen the field at Northern Illinois. He transferred in 2021, joining his younger brother Joe in Wisconsin, but he continued to see limited run. The Milwaukee native did not appear in a game in 2021 and played in two games in 2022. He was buried in the depth chart again during the 2023 season and did not see any game action.

Coming out of high school, Brunner was a two-star prospect rated as the No. 288 OLB in the nation and the No. 30 player in Wisconsin.

Wisconsin’s defensive line is getting thinner, as Brunner marks the third Badgers defensive lineman to enter the portal, joining Darian Varner and Rodas Johnson.

Wisconsin will have James Thompson Jr, Curt Neal, Ben Barten, Cade McDonald, and Jamel Howard returning next season, as well as incoming freshmen Ernest Willor Jr, Hank Weber, and Dillan Johnson. UW is also searching in the portal for help, but they recently missed out on one of their targets, keeping defensive line as the top priority in the transfer window.

Best of luck to Brunner at his next stop.
