Wisconsin Football Could Have a Return to Lambeau Field in the Works
If reports are accurate, Wisconsin football might play a road game at Lambeau Field in 2024.
What if I told you that the Wisconsin Badgers football team didn’t have to travel outside the state to play a Big Ten road game in 2024?
The excitement surrounding this intriguing possibility amplifies with rumors suggesting that the Wisconsin Badgers might make a triumphant return to Lambeau Field for the game in question.
Reports from Louie Vaccher suggest that Northwestern’s athletic director, Derrick Gragg, has hinted that the Wildcats will be hosting one of their home games at Lambeau Field this season. He also suggests that the Wisconsin football team could conceivably be the opponent.
FYI: AD Gragg told alumni in NYC last week that Northwestern will play a home game at Lambeau Field this year. He didn’t mention the opponent, but it would likely be Wisconsin on Oct. 19.
This smacks of 1991, when NU played a “home” game vs. Ohio State in Cleveland. 😒

The game in question is Northwestern’s scheduled matchup against the Badgers on Oct. 19. This development comes as Northwestern’s current stadium undergoes demolition to pave the way for a new facility.
Why This News Matters for Wisconsin Football
It’s hard to think of a better outcome for the Wisconsin Badgers football team than potentially playing a Big Ten road game at Lambeau Field.
More important than the potential transformation of this game into a home game atmosphere is the opportunity for the Badgers to bypass playing Northwestern in Evanston entirely, a venue where Ryan Field has historically been a house of horrors for Wisconsin.
Since 2003, Wisconsin football is 2-6 on the road against Northwestern.
The last time the Badgers played at Lambeau Field was in 2016 when Wisconsin knocked off No. 5 LSU. If this game with Northwestern doesn’t end up taking place in Green Bay, their next scheduled game on the Frozen Tundra would be against Notre Dame in 2026.
It’s worth noting that no University of Wisconsin officials have confirmed this possibility at this time. Stay tuned for more updates.
