As the Wisconsin football program gears up for the season finale on the road against P.J. Fleck and the Minnesota Gophers — Badgers head coach Luke Fickell provided some insights into some key players dealing with injuries at his Monday press conference.

Players like Will Pauling, Hunter Wohler, and Bryson Green are nursing injuries, and Fickell, as usual, maintained a guarded stance on their status.

“Yesterday, they were involved in activities, but I can’t confirm their field presence or full practice involvement,” Fickell said. “We’re dealing with some uncertainties here. Everyone understands the significance of this rivalry game. They’re putting in the effort to position themselves not just to play but to deliver a performance. As of now, there’s a lot we’re unsure about, and that’s what we need to navigate as we progress through the week.”

Wisconsin Football Could Be Short-Handed vs Minnesota

From Luke Fickell’s remarks, one thing is clear: if a Wisconsin football player can contribute, even in a limited capacity, in this intense rivalry matchup, they’re likely to be on the field.

Winning back the axe means a lot to the players and fans — and would serve as a victory for the program in an otherwise disappointing season.

If the trio mentioned above cannot play against the Gophers, Wisconsin will need players like Vinny Anthony, Quincy Burroughs, and CJ Williams to step up and fill those roles. On defense, Preston Zachman, Kamo’i Latu, and Travion Blaylock could all be called on to fill those snaps if star safety Hunter Wohler isn’t available.

Injuries have plagued the Wisconsin football team all season — but all excuses get thrown out the window during Axe Week — winning is non-negotiable.
