Wisconsin football headed to Purdue for their Big Ten opener. The Badgers looked to continue their dominance over the Boilermakers, who have not beaten Wisconsin since 2003. A hot start allowed the Badgers to coast to victory 38-17.

Here are three big things from the win.

Dual Threat Wisconsin Football QB Tanner Mordecai

One of the most exciting things with the addition of Tanner Mordecai, besides the rocket arm, is his ability to run. That was on full display tonight as he rushed for two touchdowns in the first quarter. A beautiful read option and a scramble drill dive to the pylon. Heck, he even caught a pass on an incredible trick play.

Tanner did it all tonight, and his running ability brings another element to this new high-power offense. Every week, it seems this offense is getting better and more comfortable.

Wisconsin Football Was Dominant on Third Down

Wisconsin football set the tone early and often, especially on third down. In the first half alone, the Badgers were nearly perfect on third down, going 8/9, while Purdue was 2/7.

Third down is an important thing that can win and lose games, and the Badgers dominated that category. In the end, Wisconsin football finished 12/18 on third down.

Defense Concerns

It has been mentioned a few times early this year that Wisconsin football has a severe problem with the consistency of their defense. What looked like a great unit in the first half completely imploded in the third quarter. Most notably tonight, the run defense was a real struggle.

Shoutout to Ricardo Hallman, who had two massive interceptions. One before halftime and one in the 4th quarter. In total, the defense did force three turnovers, which is excellent. I would just like to see more consistency from this group moving forward.

Prayers up for Chez Mellusi, who suffered a severe injury tonight.
