The Wisconsin football program isn’t wasting any time — and is aggressively pursuing available options in the transfer portal.

On Tuesday, the Badgers made their first attempt to upgrade their lackluster defensive line when they offered Penn transfer Joey Slackman.

Within a mere 24 hours of entering the portal, Slackman has garnered substantial interest, securing 17+ offers. Notable programs like Colorado, Arizona, Miami, Pittsburgh, Duke, Louisville, and North Carolina have extended offers, highlighting his plug-and-play potential.

Wisconsin Football Looking to Upgrade Defensive Line Via Transfer Portal

Wisconsin football had been actively seeking defensive linemen in the previous offseason, both through the transfer portal and in their 2023 recruiting class. Now, with potential departures from the program looming, the Badgers are keen on fortifying their defensive line depth.

With an impressive track record at Penn, Slackman played in 28 games and tallied 115 tackles, 25 tackles for loss, 11 sacks, and two forced fumbles.

The Badgers not only have production to replace heading into 2024 — but they also need a talent upgrade overall. The lack of push in the front seven was telling compared to years past. Traditionally, Luke Fickell has used his ends more as pass-rushers — so it’ll be interesting to monitor how he attacks the portal on the defensive line.
