Former Wisconsin basketball guard Connor Essegian is in the process of searching for a new home after entering the transfer portal at the end of March, and it’s looking more and more likely that he will stay in the Big Ten for the 2024-25 season.

Essegian has been linked to multiple Big Ten schools, including Michigan and Indiana, and he just wrapped up a visit with another program.

The former Badger took to social media after completing a visit with the Maryland Terrapins.

It was no surprise when Essegian entered the portal in the offseason despite previously stating he would return for another year in Madison. The former Badger set a program record by hitting 69 threes, surpassing Brad Davison for the most made three-point shots by a freshman, but his role dwindled in his sophomore year due to issues on the defensive end and the addition of AJ Storr

In the 2023-24 season, Essegian logged averages of 3.8 points, 0.8 rebounds, and 0.2 assists per game while shooting 38.5% from the floor. After hitting 35.9% of his three-point shots in his freshman campaign, the Indiana native took a step back, hitting on 30.3% of his attempts from beyond the arc.

A change of scenery could be the right move for Essegian as he looks to return to his freshman self.

Maryland is coming off of a 16-17 (7-13 in conference play) season, coming in at 12th in the Big Ten ahead of Rutgers and Michigan. The Terrapins have lost five players to the portal, but they brought in two players in Virginia Tech transfer Rodney Rice and Belmont transfer Ja’kobi Gillespie.

Maryland shot just 28.8% from beyond the arc in the 2023-24 season. If Essegian is able to get back to how he performed in his first year in Madison, he would provide a nice boost to a Terrapins team that needs some help from deep.

Essegian has yet to make stops at other schools he has been linked to, so keep an eye on his recruitment as the former Badger looks for a new home.
