Another day, another frontcourt player the Wisconsin Badgers basketball program has made contact with in the transfer portal.

With the Badgers losing Tyler Wahl to graduation and Gus Yalden to the transfer portal, Greg Gard is looking for experience options to round out the rotation. A source shared with Badgernotes.com that Wisconsin has reached out, expressing interest in Princeton forward Zach Martini.

Adam Zagoria reported that Rutgers, Richmond, Duquesne, St Joe’s, Davidson, High Point, and several other schools are involved. Of note, Martini, a New Jersey native, is taking his first recruiting visit to Rutgers.

With Coach Gard returning a veteran Wisconsin basketball roster led by Chucky Hepburn, Max Klesmit, and Steven Crowl, finding a viable forward who the Badgers could plug into the starting lineup is a top priority.

Martini, who is 6-foot-7 and weighs 235 pounds, has one year of eligibility remaining after spending the last three seasons with the Tigers.

This season, Martini made a significant impact for Princeton, earning a starting role. He averaged 8.4 points and 3.3 rebounds per game, showcasing his versatility on the court. Martini’s shooting percentages were notable, hitting 44.5% from the field, 38.5% from beyond the arc, and an impressive 83.3% from the free-throw line.

According to Synergy, Martini averaged 1.150 points per possession on the season, placing him in the 96th percentile. HoopMath data shows that he’s predominantly a perimeter player, taking 81.7% of his attempts from three.

I’ve been told that Wisconsin basketball coaches are extremely interested in getting him on campus. His offensive skill set could help open up the offense and give Crowl more room to work on the low block. The Rutgers smoke is real, so we’ll see if anything more materializes.
