Greg Gard and the Wisconsin Badgers basketball program knocked it out of the park at point guard in the 2024 recruiting class.

Daniel Freitag was the only point guard the Badgers coaching staff gave an offer at the position, and that paid off in spades when he shut down his recruitment and chose to join the University of Wisconsin based on a foundation of mutual loyalty.

In many ways, landing Freitag was the most significant recruiting win of the Gard era, and the recent evaluations from 247Sports would seem to reaffirm just how highly regarded the Minnesota native is.

Wisconsin Basketball PG Daniel Freitag Considered a Top 10 PG Nationally

Wisconsin basketball commit Daniel Freitag is considered a four-star point guard in the 2024 recruiting class, according to the composite rankings.

Although the composite has the 6-foot-3, 175-pound guard as the No. 8 PG in the country, 247Sports, who is slightly lower on Freitag, still sees him as a top 10 player at the position nationally.

In a perfect world, Freitag will enter the Wisconsin basketball program with a year to learn under starting point guard Chucky Hepburn before he presumably gets the keys to the car as a sophomore.

Freitag averaged 28.8 points, 9.9 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game as a junior at Jefferson High School. He was named the Metro West Conference Player of the Year and is Jefferson’s all-time leading scorer. Now, he’s playing at Breck School in Minnesota to finish his prep career.

“Daniel is an excellent addition to our program. We identified him early in the process, not only as a player but also as a person we want inside of our locker room,” Gard said of Freitag on National Signing Day. “His infectious personality and bright smile will make him a fan favorite.

“He is an electric athlete with skills that fit in with who we are and where the game of basketball is going. His toughness and willingness to do whatever it takes to help his team win makes him an extremely versatile guard who will impact the game in every way. He is a driven and dedicated young man, and we are thrilled to add him to our Badger family.”

The Wisconsin Badgers basketball coaching staff is incredibly high on what Freitag can bring to the program and should develop into a key contributor in short order.
