Greg Gard and the No. 24 University of Wisconsin basketball team knocked off Chicago State 80-53 at the Kohl Center on Friday night behind a career-high 29 points from sophomore forward AJ Storr.

However, the blowout win that ended the nonconference slate was overshadowed by an injury suffered by Badgers’ starting point guard, Chucky Hepburn, early in the second half.

Hepburn was quickly ruled out with a lower-body injury after being helped off the court. The junior point guard finished with three points, three rebounds, and four assists with zero turnovers in 20 minutes.

In his absence, the Badgers used a point guard by-committee approach with Max Klesmit, John Blackwell, and Kamari McGee.

Wisconsin Basketball Provides Promising Update on Chucky Hepburn

After the game, Wisconsin basketball head coach Greg Gard was asked about Chucky Hepburn’s injury status, and his answer was encouraging.

“He [Hepburn] was walking around in the locker room a little bit,” Gard told reporters. “He’s gonna be sore, but he says he’ll be fine…he’ll have some time to rest here and get him back.”

The team is taking four days off for Christmas, so the straw that stirs the Wisconsin basketball program’s drink will have some extended time to recuperate and heal up for the grueling Big Ten slate that awaits.

Wisconsin basketball (9-3, 1-0 B1G) returns to the court on January 2 at home against Fran McCaffery and the Iowa Hawkeyes.
