Wisconsin Basketball: Former Recruiting Target Enters Transfer Portal
The Badgers staff was highly interested back in 2020.
A new name that Wisconsin basketball recruiting sickos will probably remember — Brandon Angel from Stanford — has entered his name into the transfer portal and could be someone the Badgers contact in the near future.
Greg Gard and the Wisconsin Badgers offered Angel as a four-star recruit in the 2020 recruiting class and even hosted him on an official visit. In the case of Angel, his head coach at Stanford was let go, and he’s decided to explore all of his options in the wake of that news.
You might recall Angel’s recruiting story, where Wisconsin basketball coaches were en route to visit him when they received a call from four-star forward Ben Carlson, who announced his commitment to the Badgers, effectively filling the 6-foot-8 forward’s potential spot.
Since then, Carlson played two seasons for the Badgers before transferring to Utah, where he’s been a rotational piece. On the other hand, Angel has found quite a bit of success, appearing in 112 games, starting 60 — with a career average of 8.8 points and 3.6 rebounds on 38% shooting from beyond the arc.
The California native is coming off his best season yet, where he averaged 13.0 points per game, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.7 assists a night while connecting on a blistering 44.7% from three-point territory.
It’s no secret that the Wisconsin Badgers basketball program needs to add some depth in the frontcourt following Tyler Wahl’s graduation and Gus Yalden’s entry into the transfer portal. The Badgers would love to add a stretch four in the mold of Angel, but there will undoubtedly be a long list of suitors. Angel’s recruitment is worth keeping an eye on — although I’ve heard UCLA might be the team to beat.
