Following heartbreaking losses to Nebraska and Purdue last week, Greg Gard and the Wisconsin Badgers basketball team (16-6, 8-3 B1G) dropped to No. 11 in the latest AP Top 25 Poll, falling five spots from their previous position.

Despite the minor setback, the Badgers still rank amongst the nation’s best ahead of a much easier stretch of conference play.

Wisconsin Basketball Falls to No. 11 in the Latest AP Poll

En route to their dip in the polls, the Badgers fell short to Nebraska on the road last Thursday.

The Cornhuskers survived a 16-point halftime deficit, beating the Badgers 80-72 in overtime at Pinnacle Bank Arena. Despite A.J. Storr’s 28-point performance in Lincoln, Wisconsin was outscored 53-29 in the second half and overtime, and saw C.J. Wilcher drop a rare 22 points on the night. Chucky Hepburn and Max Klesmit finished with a solid 13 points each, but it wasn’t enough to defeat Nebraska’s sharp shooting performance on home court. Nebraska remains undefeated at home in conference play, now sporting victories against N0. 1 Purdue and No. 6 Wisconsin.

Looking their save their spot in the nation’s top 10, Wisconsin clashed with Purdue on Sunday afternoon in Madison.

A mix of poor three-point shooting and questionable officiating crushed their dreams of defeating the No. 2 ranked Boilermakers, bumping Wisconsin 1.5 games out of first place in the Big Ten. While the Badgers might not have come out on top, they limited 7’4″ center Zach Edey to only seven field goals on 18 points, while Tyler Wahl dropped 20 in return. Wisconsin shot a rough 3/19 from beyond the arc and were quite unlucky inside the paint.

The officiating crew exited the court to a roar of boos from the arena, and their controversial calls were the highlight of the matchup on social media.

Fortunately, the Badgers’ schedule gets a bit easier this week, with matchups against Michigan, Rutgers, and Ohio State on the horizon. With a few favorable matchups around the nation, Wisconsin might just be back in the single digits this time next week.
