“I do expect her to be available tomorrow night.” With that opening answer in her press conference on Wednesday, Wisconsin Badgers women’s basketball head coach Marisa Moseley assuaged fans’ fears about star big Serah Williams, who has missed the last two games of UW’s season.

Moseley went on to clarify that Willams isn’t just “available” but will play (shoutout to Mark Stewart of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel for the questions) on Thursday night at the Kohl Center against Nebraska (8 p.m. CT, BTN) in Wisconsin’s first game of 2024. She also noted that starting point guard Ronnie Porter, who wore a mask during the loss to Purdue, will be at 100% and that the only player still suffering effects from the non-COVID illness is not a rotational piece.

Wisconsin Badgers Women’s Basketball Finally Healthy

To say that the Badgers needed this good health news after being dominated by the Boilermakers is a bit of an understatement.

Williams has been Wisconsin’s best player all season, leading the team in scoring (16.1 ppg), rebounding (9.0 rpg), and blocks (2.9 bpg) while shooting 48.3% from the field, which is only behind Natalie Leuzinger’s 49.3 FG% of players in the regular rotation. The Badgers have looked disjointed on offense and defense over the past two games and getting Williams back in the starting lineup will fix a number of their problems instantly.

The Huskers come to the Kohl Center with a 10-3 overall (2-0 B1G) record and bring one of the best bigs in the conference (Alexis Markowski, 17.5 ppg, 9.8 rpg) with them, so there will be no “ramp up” time for Williams to ease into things. Wisconsin hasn’t beaten Nebraska in their last seven tries, so being at full strength for this matchup was imperative.
