The Wisconsin Badgers women’s basketball program and head coach Marisa Moseley signed two players in the 2024 recruiting class recently. We here at BadgerNotes know that you may not be able to pay attention to recruiting since you, presumably, have other things going on in your lives.

Don’t worry though…I don’t have anything going on in my life so I’m happy to provide scouting reports on the two newest Badgers for you. Up first we have in-state product Gracie Grzesk!

Scouting Report on the Wisconsin Women’s Basketball Signee

First off, it’s worth mentioning that both of Gracie’s parents, Liz and Gary, were impressive college basketball players when they were younger. Her mom was all-conference three times at Youngstown State, including winning Mid-Con Conference Player of the Year as a senior after averaging 18.7 ppg and 5.2 rpg, and her dad was a standout at UW-Green Bay, winning the team’s defensive player of the year all four seasons he played. Liz is also the head coach of Gracie’s AAU team and Gary is the St. Norbert College’s men’s hoops head coach for 17 years running. She comes from a family that Knows Ball is all I’m trying to say and it is pretty clear when watching highlights of her on the court.

“The product of two coaches, Gracie’s basketball IQ and savvy play are a great fit for our program. She is the definition of a winner, having recorded three straight Wisconsin state championships, with her eyes set on a 4-peat,” Wisconsin head coach Marisa Moseley mentioned on Signing Day.

She appears to be the epitome of a “coach’s kid” and has a basketball IQ that is higher than her peers. Having watched clips of her for the past two years, I’m in love with her passing from the post. She welcomes double teams, doesn’t get flustered, and then is able to kick it out to an open shooter beyond the three-point line…and there are multiple highlights of her doing this!

Looking at the highlights from last season against Sheboygan South, her box outs are technically sound and she is good at finding open space on offense to get off shots. Now I wouldn’t want to go changing TOO much about her shooting stroke, as her numbers are good, but I would like to see her have a wider base on three-pointers. Her shot reminds me a bit of Brooke Schramek’s in the sense that she kicks one of her legs back a little when facing a hand in her face. As she gets stronger in a college strength program this will hopefully change but, again, there probably doesn’t need to be too much tinkering with a successful product here.

Grezsk looks to be, at worst, a competent defender and the highlights I watched shows she has a high “give a shit” factor which is easily half of playing respectable defense. I think her ceiling for the Wisconsin women’s basketball program is as a McKenna Warnock-type player. The Madison native, and box score filler for Iowa, did it all for the Hawkeyes. She was never Iowa’s leading scorer or No. 1 offensive option, but she could still score in double-figures, defend well, rebound aggressively, and pass smartly…basically she did it all at a high level.

I know it doesn’t really matter, but, to me, it’s always a nice little bonus when in-state kids decide to play for their in-state school. “In addition to staying close to home, I am excited to compete in the Big Ten, one of the best conferences in the country. I can’t wait to be part of what Coach Mo is building,” Grzesk said.
