In a candid post-game commentary, the Wisconsin Badgers football team’s starting safety — and star defensive player — Hunter Wohler didn’t hold back his frustrations after the team’s disheartening 24-10 loss to David Braun and the Northwestern Wildcats.

The Badgers, now standing at 5-5, 3-4 in the Big Ten, faced another embarrassing defeat to a team they shouldn’t have had any issues with for the second straight week, this time at the hands of the Wildcats, marking their third consecutive loss.

Wisconsin Football Team Full of Frustration and Urgency

Everyone involved expressed their dismay over the team’s lackluster performance as the Wisconsin Badgers struggled on both offensive and defensive fronts.

The offense failed to capitalize on opportunities, while the defense allowed a staggering 24 points in the first half. Head coach Luke Fickell, acknowledging the embarrassing loss, emphasized the need to evaluate the commitment of players who truly want to be part of the team’s future.

“We’re going to have to look at tomorrow, and we’re going to have to be one day at a time and one practice at a time, one moment at a time, and find a way, with the guys we got, and the guys that want to be here and the guys that want to do it, to push forward and do the things that we can do and do them better,” Fickell stated.

When it was Hunter Wohler’s turn to speak to reporters, he offered a raw and unfiltered perspective on the team’s recent struggles. Expressing the pain of the defeat, he emphasized the urgency to find solutions and the need for every player to evaluate their commitment to the team.

“There’s no answers,” he said. “We just have to play better. I mean, we come out soft; we come out flat. We have zero energy on either side of the ball, and we get whooped around the field. There’s no answer to getting smoked. We have to be better. I mean, we’re soft. We’re not physical,” Wohler passionately conveyed.

Wohler, a key figure on the Wisconsin football team’s defense, questioned the commitment of every Badgers player, emphasizing that success requires a united team effort. Despite the recent defensive struggles, he defended the coaching staff, placing the blame squarely on the players’ lack of energy and execution.

“I think there’s some people that are bought in, and we need to get everybody, Wohler said. “This game doesn’t happen with one or two people. It happens with a full team,” Wohler stated when asked about player commitment.

Identifying Defensive Woes and Urgency for Change

The defensive breakdowns were a significant issue for the Badgers, especially on third downs, where Northwestern converted 10 opportunities.

These struggles can mostly be attributed this to poor execution, lack of challenge, and an overall passive defensive approach.

In the face of defensive woes, Wohler admitted there was no clear explanation but emphasized the need for a collective desire to win.

“I think it just comes down to want to and how bad do you really want to be a part of this team?” Wohler remarked.

A Call for Change and Unity

Expressing the Wisconsin Badgers’ current dire situation, Hunter Wohler called for accountability and a willingness to make tough decisions to weed out those not fully committed to the team’s success.

“There might be some weeding out that we need to do because right now, the things that we have going on are not what Wisconsin Football is,” Wohler stated emphatically.

As the Badgers face a quick turnaround against the Nebraska Cornhuskers, Wohler stressed the need for immediate self-reflection and a collective effort to salvage what remains of the season.

“We’ve hit rock bottom right now. And when you hit rock bottom, you take a long, hard look at yourself, and that’s what’s going to have to be done over the next 24 hours,” Wohler concluded, highlighting the urgency to rectify their current situation swiftly.
